The quick way to ask questions of a PDF — free for two documents a day

Prices verified October 30, 2026 on the vendor's site

Overview

ChatPDF is a browser-based assistant built around one task: upload a document and ask it questions. You can start without an account, and the free plan covers two documents a day, which is enough to try it on real work. Plus removes the document and question limits, raises the size ceiling to 2,000 pages per PDF and lets you group up to 50 files in a folder and query them together. Besides PDFs it accepts Word, PowerPoint, Markdown and plain-text files, and answers can be shared through links that recipients open without signing up. What it doesn't do is edit, convert or sign documents — it is a reading and research tool, and there are no team management features on the pages we checked.

Who it's for

Students working through papers and textbooks, researchers and analysts who need quick answers from long reports, and anyone who wants to try AI document Q&A for free before committing to a paid tool or an editor add-on.
